Architectural heritage

Every single day, when I am walking around the down town of FunchaI I can see hundreds of buildings in poor conditions. Sometimes I am afraid of going next to them – nobody wants to be hit by felling down layers. The residents of that places are cats and homeless people, who risks a lot, because the God only knows when they may collapse. In the effect of huge emigration of Madeiran, people started to leaving their properties and houses without care. The Portuguese low is saying that if you don´t take response for your building, for the next 40 years the government will take it from you. What later? The ground might be re-sell with a structure, but a […]

Access to forests is our privilege?

Levadas – more than two thousands kilometers of irrigation channels, going through Madeira across and along from the top to the bottom of the island. I can only think about walking along the path surrounding levada by green tropical flora, to feel undiscribed calmness. Even more I like to visit them alone without companions, for better exploration. Every single forest has his own story to discover and it depends on us, do we want to hear them or not. People from the North

Two months ago, me and my friends had a pleasure to visit continental part of Portugal. We spent two days in Porto and for a week we could live in a place, where portuguese statehood was born – in Guimaraes. If I can be honest, it was not how I imagined. Only one script “Aqui nasceu Portugal”, which is hanging on the huge, surrounding old town defencive wall inform tourists about this fact. The population of the city is 120 thousend people, but it seems to be even less. Architecture of this place is stunning. Original medieval main square in the heart of the downtown, with a whole masses of tiny, stylish very typical for South Europe cafes, bars and […]

Me, Myself and I

Generally, I’d rather to gorge on countless portions of sweet bread and pastries from popular bakery for all of residents of the student’s house at Rua Santa Maria, but I have to write an article, which traditionaly is prepared by the greatest voulunteers in the whole globe (including me). It’s not the first time, when one of my coordinators Marcos is asking me for my text and then, every single time I get heart pulpitation. Most of my colleagues used to describe, what is intresting in the local cusine, for what they like Portuguese people, what inspires them in Funchal etc. For me it seems to be so pretentious, so now I will use an opportunity to write something about… […]

Yes, I can’t

Do you suffer from putting off all your daily duties to unspecified time in the future? Are you always waiting for a better moment to do something? If you don’t know: “from where to start…?”, you can’t stand failure or you do the tasks “for now” only because you fear the consequences – it means that you might have a problem with procrastination. What is procrastination? ‘Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task, that needs to be accomplished’ – Wikipedia. In my opinion it is a kind of pathology. Why? Because normally, nobody wants to live in never-ending tension. A procrastinator wants to have everything under control, so that person creates the appearance of normality. She or he knows […]
