The urge to see the world

One thing that I have understood since I live on this tiny island is why people get addicted to travelling. I started going abroad not long ago, when I could afford it. So when holidays came, I would always try to convince a friend to go with me and find the cheapest flights or Airbnb. There was no real purpose or reflexion behind this, only the will to go somewhere outside the country where I was born. Was the European Union a bad idea?

I studied European Structural and Investment Funds and I thought that it would be interesting to see what the EU have done for Madeira. As a pro-European, and even though I am well aware that some people are sceptical about this whole idea, I want to believe that the European Union can only be beneficial to its member states. The European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds) are the European Union’s main investment policy tool: 454 billion euros have been allocated from the EU budget to be invested in more than 500 programmes. Expectations

It has already been a month since I left my hometown in the northeast of France to live this experience of a lifetime in Madeira. How do I feel about that? If anyone would have told me that I would be in Madeira at that time last year, I would have never believed him or her. I was doing my end-of-studies internship in the Ministry of Economy in Luxembourg, and I was expecting, or rather, my parents were expecting me to find a job afterwards.
